Sixth Principle

6. I believe with prefect faith that all the words of the prophets are true. (from the Ani Ma'amin)

  1. The Sixth Principle is that Prophecy is Real. Without an acceptance of the reality of prophecy, Torah as we understand it is impossible. Simply, Torah's validity emerges from its essence as a communication from God. Prophecy is that which declares this communication possible.

  2. It seems that Judaism feels a strong inclination towards a society of leaders and followers. While we all are encouraged to strive for greatness, we are not all to strive to be leaders. Select individuals are leaders, select individuals with unique abilities. And yet Moshe laments, were it not that we all were prophets. Is Moshe's vision of the ideal world flawed? Does Judaism truly yearn for a world of prophets?
